The exhibition programming at Mamá Art Cafe began in October 2004 with an exhibition of paintings by Marta Ayala, who created the interior mural, Madre Tierra, depicting Central American landscape in June 2004. Drawing from memories of her childhood in El Salvador, Martha’s paintings poetically merge the abstract with concrete imagery from ancient cultures and the earth including stone, water, and wind. These portraits of stones, pebbles, and rocks remind viewers of the earth below and its ever-changing character upon exposure to the natural elements.
