Rucha Shirsalkar: Escape the Cycle
April - May, 2008

Rucha Shirsalkar makes paintings that reveal her meditative process and at the same time invite the viewer to personal meditation.  Her paintings from the series, Escape the Cycle, present several dichotomies.  Deliberately made brushstrokes are interrupted by uninhibited paint drips.  Bold earth tones are grounded by spontaneous blasts of gold dust. The shapes, square (format) and circle (subject), are constants throughout the work but the dynamics between the two shapes change from piece to piece.  In their abstraction, the viewer is able to place her own meaning onto Rucha’s work in an exercise that stimulates both body and mind.
