Slow Eye, Quick Shutter: Images by Lev Anderson and Michael McCauslin
February - April 2006

In a digital world, where technology has increased the production of images and speed of accessing them, Lev Anderson and Michael McCauslin invite the viewer to slow down in the act of looking. Working in the same spirit that street photographers have inherited from turn-of-the-century photographers such as Eugene Atget and Andre Kertesz, Anderson and McCauslin capture the minute details and serendipitous moments within a city’s streets. The tool of choice is a digital camera, which facilitates a patient and deliberate observation.  McCauslin’s images are fueled by an emotional response to his surroundings.  The images chronicle his travels over the past year where he discovered human commonalities independent of geographic location. Anderson’s experience as an urban planner increased his appreciation for the beauty in the seemingly mundane. His images illuminate the hidden micro-landscapes that exist around us.  Both McCauslin and Anderson generously offer a glimpse of the world that might otherwise go unnoticed.
