Travers Ebling is a long-time customer and friend of Mamá Art Cafe. His furniture design studio, 659 Design, is located across the street from our venue and we are pleased to showcase his recent paintings.
From his artist's statement:
“Painting is an opportunity for me to work in a looser format than furniture. My furniture design requires extensive drawings and calculations. Painting allows me to set rigor aside and explore on a level welcoming of the happy accident.… My arm becomes a compass, the movement is more free, faster, less constricted and restrained.
I’m happy to hang this show at Mamá Art Cafe. Cruzita and her girls have fed me countless meals, while I slaved away on a furniture project in my studio across the street. Paulo works tirelessly to bring people together, creating connection and developing community.
[Mamá Art Café] is my home away from home, it’s family style, it’s local, it’s authentic. Knowing a place like this exists in the world makes me happy, hanging my work here and having you come to see it, doubly so!”
